Yes it can. Even kill, but it would have to be a large cal. not just a 22. The air slows down its decent. I've been hit myself with buckshot from a vertical shot before. but it came down threw the tree canopy before hinting me, it stung but didn't even leave a bruise. Also I once figured out how to do a five point reflection shot with a 22, but, after the 4th or 5th time after shooting myself and not realizing that bullets arn't always packed the same, I had a nasty little bruise and could have lost my eye. So don't try this at home! A better experiment to try is just drop led weights from a parking garage threw aluminum paper you can really see newton lbs at work.
